I never even told my wife this story

Have you ever felt like giving up on life?

Some months ago while waiting at the airport, I ended up sitting near an elderly couple in the boarding area.

Late 60's maybe, and healthy looking, but their body language just screamed sadness.

I don't know what came over me, but I felt compelled to start up a conversation with the man, who I'll call Frank.

Seconds later, I knew something very difficult was happening to them.

When I asked if they were traveling for business or pleasure, Frank gave me a blank look, while
his wife Mary, who was pretending to read, (I say this because she had not turned a page the entire 20 minutes before I spoke to them) - started to cry!

I was stunned... uncomfortable, wishing I had kept to myself.

But Frank gently took her hand and looking at me with sullen eyes, told me "neither."

"We have lost almost everything we worked our whole lives for."

Turns out they were on their way to live with a relative in another state, because they had lost their home of 29 years.

Suddenly I had become an instant confidant, as Frank poured out their story to me.

(Why is it easier for us to tell a total stranger our deepest hurts sometimes?)

Apparently, Mary had some health issues a few years before and Medicare would not cover them. They had plenty of equity in their home and decided to take a loan out against it to cover her treatment expenses.Sadly, from the details Frank shared, it was clear to me they had been sold into a sub-prime
loan which very likely made the broker a lot of money, but created a tragedy for the couple.

To make a long story short, when the market crashed, the value of their home plummeted way below what they had borrowed.

With Mary's medical expenses and only their combined fixed incomes from retirement and Social Security, they just couldn't keep up with the payments as the mortgage adjusted.

With watery eyes, Frank whispered to me, "if it weren't for Mary needing me so much, I would have called it quits. What do I have to live for anymore?"

Wow. What do you say in situations like this?

Here I was, a 40 something multi-millionaire sitting next to this couple who represented so much of America, and they were ready to just give up on it all.

So I did the only thing I knew to do. I started telling them about what I do and what I teach. Mary suddenly remembered my face, saying she had seen me on TV.

Well, the conversation got lighter as we kept talking. I asked for their information to send them some of my books and materials.

I'm not going to go through everything I told them,
but I will tell you this.

By the time we parted ways they were smiling and it looked to me like they once again had the most precious commodity of all...hope!

Now I don't know what they will do, but I did know what I was going to do.

See, on the one hand I felt good that maybe I had cheered them up. On the other hand I felt sad.

Sad because I had come face-to-face with one side of the recession I don't get to see on a daily basis.

I have kept the memory and conversation with Mary and Frank secret and close to my heart.

It has kept me going over the last few months when things got hard for me. (yes, I have bad days too!).

It is people like Mary and Frank that keep me pushing the boundaries, working so hard and pushing you to get the results you deserve and desire.

I want to give you hope, I want you to have faith and most importantly, I want to give you a means to see results from both of those.

Next week, you're going to start to see what the results of my most recent efforts are. Do NOT...and I repeat..DO NOT miss a single email.

Life is funny like that. You never know when an email or a chance encounter at an airport, will change things for you or even the "Mary and Frank" in your life... forever!

Most Sincerely,
