Types of Listing Scams:
Scammers
act in different ways they are unique and creative! Some of scammers take
genuine ads from internet. They keep the address and name of the owner same
while alter just a small portion of the information. This altered ad will be
placed on another website. Others simply put a phony ad with fake information.
They will list the properties that do not exist. Some will lure you to pay
lesser rent as compare to local market.
Whatever
the trend and practice may be, their only motivation is to loot your money. Whether
you are dealing with a genuine person or with a scam, following alerts can help
you.
Money, Money!!
There
has never been a better signal than to ask for money. They will make lame
demands like first month rent, money back if the deal is not finalized, this
cost, that cost and so much blabbering. In reality, they are actually looting
you. Beware of any deal that asks you to wire money or send a pay draft etc.
One Ad Displayed Under Different
Names:
Take the
name or other information from the ad and search it on Google. If same ad is
posted more than one times under different names than quit the deal. Another
way is to search for the owner's reputation online. Put his name in Google
search bar and there you go, you will find out everything.
A Middleman Will Deal Handover
Keys to You as I Am Out of the Town:
A
middleman, the realtor, the agent etc whatever name you give this invisible
man, end result is always same. This middleman never shows his face. There are
so many lame excuses, like I am out of the town, I am ill; my wife met an
accident, my daughter's graduation, my uncle died etc. At the end, they will
tell you to send money and they will handover the keys to that middleman or
agent. Never trust such excuses. Never pay money, no matter how small amount,
for a house that you have never seen.
